HHS splits with Decatur
Kanesia Elliott scored 15 points and Quanesha Burk added 12 points as Hartselle opened its 2010-11 season with a 56-34 thrashing of rival Decatur Monday.
Hartselle opened up a 27-20 lead at the half and pulled away for the win.
Alice Ann Glasgow added seven points, while Kaylee Shelton and Katelyn Hill both chipped in six points each.
Decatur’s Sadrina Hood led the Red Raiders with 11 points.
Decatur 72, Hartelle 49
Just three days after bring knocked from the football playoffs, Hartselle dropped a 72-49 decision to Decatur on the road Monday.
Six of Hartselle’s nine varsity basketball players were on the football field Friday in the Tigers’ 24-21 loss to Briarwood Christian in the Class 5A state semifinals.
Aaron Wooley scored 12 points to lead the Tigers, while Matt Johnston added 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Tigers also got eight points from Chance Partlow. Timbo Slaten finished with seven points, while Isaiah Fowler and Terry Wiggins both finished with six points each.
Decatur led 20-10 after the first quarter and never trailed. A strong third quarter run helped the Red Raiders stretch the margin to 50-32 and held off Hartselle for the victory at home.
