Hartselle man pleads guilty to arson
A Hartselle man could serve as long as 20 years behind bars after pleading guilty last week to arson of a local business.
David Arthur Groover, 39, pled guilty to arson in connection to a Jan. 16 fire at Hartselle Plywood and Lumber Co., a manufacturer of cabinets for mobile homes. Police said Groover broke into the business, stole computer equipment and a cell phone and then poured lacquer and paint thinner onto the floor and set the building on fire.
The fire caused some $500,000 in damage and disrupted manufacturing.
Groover’s sentencing date has not been set. However, arson charges carry a mandatory prison sentence of 5-20 years and a $250,000 fine.
