Don J. Jones

A graveside service for Don J. Jones, 86, of Decatur was Wed., Dec. 15, at 11 a.m. at Johnson Chapel Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Ray Hal-brooks officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Jones died Fri., Dec. 10, 2010, at Lakehaven Assisted Living in Luverne. He was born Jan. 14, 1924, in Crenshaw County to Eugene R. Jones and Loraine Catherine Rogers Jones. He was a 1949 graduate of the University of North Alabama where he was president of the student government association. He earned his master’s degree from Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. and served in the U.S. Navy during the Pacific Theatre from 1942 to 1945 as a radioman on B-24s. He was appointed in 1999 by Gov. Don Siegleman to the State Board of Appeals for Unemployment Compen-sation and was reappointed by Gov. Bob Riley in 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Aline Jones.
He is survived by a son, Michael E. Jones and wife Stephanie of Luverne; a daughter, Patsy Jeffers and husband Dennis of Oneida, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Drew Jeffers of Smithville, Tenn., Ali Sansing and husband Matthew of Birmingham and Klein Jones and Sadie Jones, both of Luverne.
Pallbearers were Drew Jeffers, Klien Jones, Matthew Sansing, Hoyt Johnson, Mark Hendrix and Marvin Pridmore. Honorary pallbearers were Laymon Till, Joe Blevins, Jim Webb and Harold Speake.
