Priceville, Hartselle split
Morgan Ponder scored 15 points to lead Priceville to a 41-36 victory over Hartselle on the road Friday night.
Ponder was 6-of-7 from the free throw line to help the Bulldogs overcome a 5-for-22 shooting performance in the first half.
Molly Thompson added eight points for Priceville. Presley Darling finished with four points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Priceville improved to 9-5 overall with the victory.
“We needed a big win,” said Priceville head coach Catrina Mason. “We shot our free throws well, especially at the end.”
Priceville trailed 28-25 heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring the Lady Tigers 16-8 over the final eight minutes of play.
Quanesha Burks led Hartselle with 12 points and five rebounds. Kanesia Elliott added eight points.
Hartselle 62, Priceville 50
Hartselle’s Chance Partlow made nine of 12 free throws and finished with a game-high 17 points as the Tigers beat Priceville Friday night.
The Tigers overcame Priceville’s 55 percent shooting from the field in the first half to rally for the win.
Hartselle improved to 4-3 overall with the win. It was the Tigers’ fourth straight victory after starting the season 0-3.
Aaron Wooley and Isaiah Fowler finished with 12 and 11 points respectively in the win.
Hartselle made just eight of 22 shots from the field in the first half but the game was tied at 26-26 at the half.
The Tigers used a 16-6 run in the third quarter to pull away from Priceville (6-6).
“We shot the ball well in the first half but then Hartselle started shooting well,” said Priceville head coach Darrell Haynes. “We just seemed to lose our edge defensively and Hartselle stepped up its defense.”
Matt Teague led the Bulldogs with 15 points, while Kalieb Gibson and John Hawkins finished with 13 and 10 points respectively.
Gibson scored 10 points in the fourth quarter.
