Ornaments are a great way to start family collection

Start a Christmas tradition for your baby’s first Christmas by making a  handcrafted decoration. Make one for each year and date it. By the time they are 18 years old they have a collection of decorations for college or their home.

Cheese Stuffed Pears
Dry drained chilled canned pears well on paper towels. Fill hollow with cream cheese. Put a red cherry, pitted date, in the center of two halves before sealing with softened cream cheese. For ruffle, pipe cream through pastry tube. Use holly leaves for pear stem.

Frosted Grapes
Dip small bunches of grapes into slightly beaten egg white and drain off excess. Dip into sugar. When dry, arrange on platter.

Cream of Tomato Soup
1 large can tomatoes
1/2 cup finely diced onion
1 t. sugar
2 T. butter or margarine
2 T. flour
1 1/2 cup milk
Combine tomatoes, onion and sugar in large saucepan. Simmer for 10 minutes over low heat. In a saucepan, melt butter or margarine; add flour and stir in milk, stirring constantly. Heat through.

Chili
1 can chili beans
1 can tomato soup
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion
Fry meat to brown, add onion to sauté – drain. Add beans and soup. Add chili powder. Simmer 30 minutes.

Spiced Grape Juice
4 cups water
2 sticks cinnamon
4 cups grape juice
2 cups orange juice
3/4 cup sugar
Combine water, sugar and cinnamon sticks. Boil mixture for 10 minutes – strain. Add fruit juices to spiced water and heat.

Carrot Saladaise
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 t. milk
1/2 cup miniature marshmallows
1/2 cup crushed pineapple
1/4 cup chopped nuts
1 1/2 cup grated carrots
Mix mayonnaise and milk until creamy.
Fold in remaining ingredients and chill for several hours before serving.

Diet Dressing
1 cup cold water
1 T. corn starch
1/2 t. dry mustard
1/4 cup vinegar
1/4 cup catsup
1/2 t. paprika
Stir cornstarch and dry mustard into cold water until dissolved. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Cool. Add remaining ingredients, beating until smooth. Cover and store in refrigerator.
