Burglars take items over Christmas holiday
Thieves broke into the mobile home of Richard Konichek at 25 Bean Road, Lot E sometime over the Christmas holiday and escaped with personal possessions valued at more than $4,000.
Konichek said he returned home Dec. 27 to find that someone had broken into his house, ransacked it and stole meat from a freezer, space heaters, wide screen TV, computer scanner and printer, clothing and other personal property valued at $4,000. He and his wife Cion were visiting relatives in Tennessee when the burglary took place.
“A friend helped us get a room in a motel Monday night because we had no heat in the house,” Konichek said.
Morgan County Sheriff’s investigator Pete Taylor confirmed the burglary on Tuesday. He said he conducted an on-site investigation Monday afternoon and collected evidence, which is being processed as part of an ongoing investigation.
Konichek said he is a disabled minister and had no means to replace the stolen property.
A special fund has been set up at Family Security Credit Union in Hartselle and other locations to assist the Konicheks. Donations may be made to the Richard Konichek Burglary Fund.
