E-Sound Off for week of Dec. 27
Rep. Henry responds to Rick Bragg controversy
“I am disappointed that the only mention in our paper about the most historic legislative session in our lifetime was about my dissatisfaction with the so- called orientation. The orientation was held in Tuscaloosa and was a complete waste of tax payer dollars. We learned very little about the inner workings of the legislature but were constantly told how we shouldn’t get involved in partisan politics by people like Sen. Roger Bedford. We were also given ethics training by Joe Espy, Milton McGregor’s attorney. The “Orientation” was a waste of tax dollars. That is what the tweets were about. Unfortunately The Mobile Press Register took an excerpt out and made a side story about Rick Bragg and then the Hartselle Enquirer cut and pasted that story without “Enquiring”. I have since spoken with Diane Bragg, Rick’s wife, she was very gracious and understanding once she had the whole story. I apologized for being so harsh on her husband; it was my disgust with the almost blatant waste of taxpayer money and resources that seemed to culminate in her husband’s speech. Diane assured me I misunderstood her husband’s intentions and that is possible. Unfortunately for Rick Bragg he had to follow several presentations that were intended to sway the legislature to the left.” – – Rep. Ed Henry, R-Hartselle
Other sounds offs
“Just how does one know whether an elected official actually reads the bills they vote on? Henry is right. As a representative from district 9, he is only responsible for that district, and not the entire state. That’s why there are 105 districts in the state.
Why would anyone want to read about this writer and his struggles? I can assure you that he isn’t the first nor will he be the last to live in poverty. The difference is he publicized every little detail, and got rich from it.
Look, I understand that your choice for district 9 got beat worse than a red- headed stepchild, but attacking someone for such trivial issues is cheap. As he is a Republican, one would expect him to vote Republican, duh!”
“Wrong– Henry is a state representative and represents us all. If his vote can alter our way of living, then he is, indeed, a representative for us all. So what if he is a district representative? Those districts are all part of the state.”
“I’m a fan of Rick Bragg’s books, and I’ve just become a new fan of Ed Henry.
I frequently have to endure or ignore Bragg’s “southern Democrat” leanings in his books – and I can only imagine how mind-numbing that lecture must have been.”
“Why did Ed Henry have to post derogatory and demeaning comments about the speaker in the legislative orientation? Because Ed Henry has no accomplishments of his own. He’s done nothing but rant since the election process began. Nothing has changed there. Guess that is all we can expect of the ultimate rookie fault finder.”
He has nothing positive to say. He didn’t have a clue who Bragg Bragg even was!
