New Center hosts Watchnight service
Our community was saddened by the passing of Vera Viola Floyd Couey, a longtime friend and neighbor. recently. She was born Nov. 4, 1933, in Morgan County to Luther Nolton Floyd and Eula Blankenship Floyd. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Buddy Couey, and a son, Joe Couey. She was known by many as “Granny” and knowing her was like taking a dose of medicine when your felt bad. After talking with her your day always seemed to go better. She will be greatly missed.
On Christmas Eve, Fred and Evelyn Motes enjoyed having several guests in their home. Guests were Jo and Cecil Bomar, Nathan and Javon Alldredge, Tara Heard, Mike, Kaye, Meagan and Kayla Widener and Darren, Roxanne, Darian and Rachel Tucker
If you were to visit with Fred and Evelyn Motes this time of the year you would find 19 Christmas stockings hanging on one of the kitchen walls. Each family member has his or her own stocking and sometimes there might be an extra one for a visitor. While the stockings are a part of their Christmas tradition, the family focuses on the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ. Even though all of their children are grown and have children of their own, Christmas still has a special meaning to the Motes family. Before lunch the entire family gathers in the living room and joins hands and has prayer. Each family member is given the opportunity to share something of importance to their family. This year their oldest grandaughter, Meagam Widener, read the Christmas story from Luke 2:1-14 Their son-in-law, Darren Tucker, said the closing prayer and blessed the food, After lunch, everyone gathers in the living room to exchange gifts and make new memories and recall old ones. I would like to tell my parent how much I love them and say thank you for making Christmas so special for our families.
