Wilson picks up his 100th win with Lady Hawks
FLORETTE – Paul Wilson’s 100th win at Danville came against one of the Lady Hawks’ biggest challenges of the season.
With a balanced attack, Danville beat Brewer 64-54 to improve to 17-3.
Ashley Nance scored 23 points to lead the Lady Hawks to a rare victory over Brewer.
Danville, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, has now won four of its last seven games since starting the season with 13 straight victories.
Celese Sharbutt aided the Lady Hawks with 14 points and eight rebounds. Kayloni Cross chipped in eight points for Danville.
Hannah McClung had seven points and eight rebounds.
Brewer’s Hannah Crawford led the Lady Patriots with 16 points. Courtney Oldacre added 14 points, while Savannah Flack finished with 10 points.
Brewer had beaten Danville by 12 points during a Christmas tournament at DAR and had not lost to the Lady Hawks since the 1992 season.
But the Lady Hawks came up with a strong run in the first half to set the stage for its first win over Brewer in almost two decades.
Danville overcame an early deficit with a 25-15 run in the second quarter to take a two-point advantage into the second half.
The Lady Hawks started to pull away from Brewer in the third quarter and led by as much as 10 points at several points.
Brewer 71, Danville 41
Jordan Bowling scored 16 points as Danville rolled to a 30-point victory over Danville.
Joey Lawrence added 12 points for the Patriots, while Hunter Bramlett finished with 11 points.
Brewer limited Danville to 17 points in the first half to open up a 19-point lead over the Hawks.
The Patriots scored the first six points of the second half to quickly put the game out of reach.
Danville’s Erick Cordova scored nine points to lead the Hawks. Zach Alred added seven points.
Danville dropped to 10-6 overall with the loss. The Hawks had lost to Brewer just a week earlier in the Big Blue Classic championship.
