DA Anderson, Coroner Chunn take office
Swearing in ceremonies were conducted for Morgan County District Attorney Scott Anderson and Coroner Jeff Chunn in separate ceremonies in the Morgan County Courthouse Tuesday afternoon.
Anderson took the oath of office from Morgan County District Judge Shelley Waters in Circuit Judge Sherry Paler’s courtroom at 3 p.m.. He was accompanied by his wife, Cindy, who held the family Bible, and their children, Evan, Charlee and Jade.
Chunn was sworn in by District Judge Charles Langham in a district judge’s courtroom in a 2 p.m. ceremony. Standing by his side were his wife Lisa, who held the family Bible, and his mother, Ima Chunn and son, Matthew.
Morgan County Probate Judge Greg Cain introduced Anderson, 45, as a distinguished attorney with vast experience in the DA’s office.
“We are privileged to have Scott serve Morgan County in this capacity.” he pointed out.
“In the words of Yogi Berra, I want to thank everybody who made this day necessary,” Anderson quipped. He followed up by pointing to his campaign workers, members of his family and Doug Hale, who accompanied him on the campaign trail.
“Anderson summed up his comments by issuing a warning to law breakers: “Get ready because Morgan County has a DA who will use the full force of his office to make sure you spend as much time in jail as the law allows.”
Judge Langham spoke of Chunn as being extremely well qualified to serve as coroner.
“His compassion and training make him a perfect fit for the office,” Langham pointed out. “He will always carry out his duties with honor an respect.”
