Whenever buying canned food always buy several of the same items so you will have a spare.
Whenever you buy a new item such as clothing trash the old item.
To save money, shop the after-Christmas sales for clothing and other items. These can be used as gifts.
Buy Christmas decorations on sale after Christmas for the next year and also Christmas cards.
Have a baby clothing swap with baby clothes that babies no longer wear.
Cheese Puffs
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/4 pound cheese grated
Mix all ingredients well. Roll into small balls, about the size of large marbles. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Serve immediately.
Italian Dressing
1 cup cooking oil
1/2 cup vinegar
1 t. sugar
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. dry mustard
1/4 t. red pepper
1/4 t. garlic powder
Combine all ingredients into a jar with a tight-fitting lid. Shake until well mixed. Store covered in refrigerator. Yields about 1 1/2 cups of dressing.
Whenever you put outgoing mail into your mailbox put it into a plastic freezer bag, this will keep the mail from getting damp.
Breakfast Cocktail
2 cups orange juice
2 bananas sliced
1 can pineapple tidbits
Pour orange juice over bananas and pineapple tidbits. Stir together well. Serve in two bowls.
Apple Rings
1 cup biscuit mix
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
2 apples
Mix biscuit mix, egg and milk together until smooth. Grease griddle. Cut apples crosswise into 1/8 inch slices. Dip slices into batter and cook on hot griddle until golden brown. Turn once. Serve with syrup or jelly.
Vegetable Soup
2 small carrots cubed
2 small potatoes cubed
1 onion diced
6 cups hot water
1 cup instant nonfat dry milk
Combine carrots, potatoes and onion in water over low heat until tender, about 10-15 minutes. Stir in dry milk. Serve immediately.
Bean Salad
1 can kidney beans, drained
1/4 cup diced celery
1/4 cup diced green pepper
2 T. minced onion
3 T. salad dressing
Rinse kidney beans in cold water and drain. Combine remaining ingredients and mix well. Chill before serving.
Thousand Island Dressing
1 1/2 salad dressing
1/2 cup catsup
1/4 cup pickle relish
1 T. grated onion
Combine ingredients and mix well. Chill before serving.
Scalloped Potatoes
4 or 5 potatoes
1 onion sliced thin
1 can cheddar cheese soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
Peel and slice potatoes and onion. Layer in a greased casserole dish. Blend soups together and thin with 1 can of milk. Pour over potatoes. Cover and bake for one hour at 350 degrees or until done.
Chinese Vegetables
3 slices bacon
2 cups celery sliced diagonally
1/2 cup sliced green pepper
1/2 onion chopped
Salt to taste
2 cups shredded cabbage
1 large carrot sliced diagonally
1 t. sugar
Brown bacon. Add vegetables and stir-fry for five minutes. For the last minute of cooking sprinkle with 1 t. sugar and continue cooking.
Asparagus
1 large can asparagus
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 package slivered almonds
1/2 pound grated cheddar cheese
Layer half of asparagus, mushroom soup, almonds and cheese in a casserole dish. Repeat layers. Top with buttered bread crumbs. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
