Hartselle man charged with stealing, forging checks
A Hartselle man is facing forgery charges in Decatur after police investigated a theft of checks earlier this week.
Dalton Leon Vest, 48, of Byrd Vest Road was arrested Thursday and charged with five counts of possession of a forged instrument in the second degree. Vest was in the Decatur City Jail awaiting transfer to the Morgan County Detention Center under a $12,500 bond.
According to a press release, a report was filed with the Decatur Police Department on Tuesday in reference to a theft and forgery of an undisclosed quantity of checks. The incident occurred at 4702 Danville Road SW in Decatur, which is the address for a convenience store called First Stop Last Stop.
“The victim reported the checks were stolen and then passed to a local business without authorization,” the report states. “During the course of the investigation, Dalton Vest was developed as a suspect.”
Decatur Police are still investigating the case.
