Hartselle grounds Lady Eagle attack
Hartselle forced 22 Athens turnovers and overcame an early deficit to earn a 48-39 win Monday night.
Quanesha Burks led the Lady Tigers with 16 points and 7 steals, which was half of the team’s steal total.
Kanesia Elliot also added 12 points and 4 steals in the win. Melissa Paul Hill added an efficient 9 points on 4 of 6 shooting from the field with 5 rebounds. Katelyn Hill chipped in 4 points and 4 rebounds while Sarah Horner collected 3 points and 5 assists. Ashley Aday and Belaine Hill rounded out the scoring with 2 points each.
Athens jumped out quickly on Hartselle, outscoring the Lady Tigers 14-9 in the first quarter. Hartselle chipped away at the deficit in the second quarter but still trailed 23-20 at halftime.
The third quarter, however, belonged to Hartselle. The team took the lead and never looked back.
The Lady Tigers led 39-31 at the end of the third and cruised to the victory.
Hartselle outscored Athens 21-8 in points off turnovers. One other key to the victory was Hartselle’s foul shooting. The Lady Tigers went 7-for-10 from the line while Athens only hit two of its 10 free shots.
Athens was led by Kacie Dentleegrand with 10 points and 9 rebounds. She was the only Lady Eagle in double figures.
