Falkville names Carroll to vacancy
Falkville Town Council appointed David Carroll, pastor of Victory Fellowship Church, to fill a vacancy on the council at its regular meeting Feb. 1.
Carroll was sworn in immediately by town attorney Larry Madison and he cast his vote on a couple of business matters during the meeting.
Carroll, 62, will receive a salary of $200 per month and will serve out the remainder of Bonnie Thompson’s four-year term. Thompson resigned last November to train as the town’s court magistrate.
Five residents submitted applications for the position. Carroll was chosen by unanimous vote after councilmen wrote their nominations on cards and turned them over to Madison. The result was three nominations for Carroll, followed by a motion and a unanimous vote. Afterwards, it was revealed that Brandon Dillard, an employee of Tory Carbon Fibers in Decatur, received two nominations.
The other applicants were David Edmondson, who served three consecutive terms on the governing body until he was defeated by Thompson in 2008; Patrick Holmes, an employee of Bunge; and Bennie Weaver, a retired truck driver.
Carroll is a native of Holly Pond who has lived in Falkville and served as pastor of Victory Fellowship, a non-denominational church, for 24 years.
“It’s an honor for me to serve on the council,” he said. “I look forward to helping our community grow and maintain a safe living environment for its residents.”
