Church completes new family life center
The wait is over for the First Assembly of God.
The church has completed its new 16,800 square foot family life center and will dedicate it this Sunday.
The Rev. Jess White, pastor of First Assembly of God, said while it’s been a long four-year building process, it’s been about as problem free as he’s ever been apart of.
“We’ve had a lot of challenges over the last four years, but it’s been positive,” White said. “I don’t think there could have been a better group of people to work with during a building project than this church. There hasn’t been any complaints or questions about it other than when we were going to be finished. It’s just been a real positive process.”
The new $1 million addition allows the church to expand its outreach to the community, White said. It offers a new 350-seat multipurpose gymnasium that is where the whole congregation will worship on Sunday mornings, a 2,500 square foot Student Ministries Center, a 2,000 square foot Kidzone church, a library, coffee shop, nursery, numerous classrooms and a large commercial kitchen.
Of the new features, White is particularly excited about the Student Ministries Center and the Kidzone church.
“In our old building, we just didn’t have the space to give our children and our youth what they needed,” White said. “Now we’ll be able to not only serve the needs of children and youth in our church, but also in the entire community.”
The Student Ministries Center and Kidzone both give the children and youth a place to worship and to hang out complete with game tables and other fun things to do.
“These facilities should serve our church and this community for years to come,” White said.
A dedication service for the new facility is scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. Coffee and light refreshments will be served at 10 a.m. The facility will be open for tours.
Hartselle Mayor Dwight Tankersley will address the congregation. The keynote speaker will be the Rev. Ken Draughon from Montgomery, Alabama District Superintendent.
Included in the service will be a ribbon cutting, video clips of the construction, acknowledgement of local contractors, and presentation of a bronze plaque to honor Bill and Bettye Shadrick for their many years of dedication and service to First Assembly.
White said that through the help of many, and of course God in particular, this $1 million facility is debt free.
“Our deepest gratitude goes to God and those many friends who gave sacrificially,” White said. “It’s amazing that we’ve been able to do this during such difficult times economically. It just shows you how good God is and how sacrificially our church has given.”
