Speed bumps won’t ever get installed
Dear Editor:
I would like to comment on the speed bump article in your paper.
First, I am glad that the City of Hartselle is taking up this matter, but the action needed to get the speed bumps installed is silly.
You’re not going to get all people on their street to agree on anything, especially speed bumps on their street. Some see the speeders while some don’t.
Second, even if you got them all to sign, then you have to get them to agree to pay for the traffic study. Then you have to have drivers average 10 mph over the speed limit. And if they don’t, the people have paid for a traffic study that didn’t help them.
But if all of the above came to pass, then you still have to get the fire chief and police chief to agree that the speed bumps wouldn’t be a problem for fire and ambulances.
Do you get where I am going with this. We might as well get the President and Congress involved. So let’s forget about speed bumps.
Next, the mayor said he would like to resolve the problem without speed bumps. Well I have spoken to the mayor, police chief and a few policemen about the speeders, people running stop signs at Holloway and Elm Street and the loud noise coming from some mufflers on trucks.
The very few tickets I have seen passed out on Holloway have not lessened the problem. People use Holloway as a bypass. Eastbound traffic on Highway 36 west use Holloway Street to bypass the lights at 31 and and 36. Eastbound traffic on Vaughn Bridge used Holloway Street to avoid the lights at 31 and to also get to Crestline School and downtown.
If Mr. Mayor would like to sit on my front porch one morning from say 7 to 9 and afternoon from 3 to 5, he might just put a policeman on Holloway full time. The ticket money would be a good income for the city.
Thank you.
