Hartselle to make up school day on Saturday, Feb. 26
Hartselle City Schools will make up for Thursday’s canceled school day on Saturday, Feb. 26.
School Superintendent Mike Reed said the school system looked at several options including taking away a day from spring break or adding a school day to the end of the year.
However, Reed felt like going to school on Saturday was the best option.
“We needed another instructional day before our state-required exams,” Reed said. “If we added it on to the end of school, it would wind up being a non-instructional day. Going to school on Saturday will give us the day we needed before the exams.”
Currently, Hartselle City Schools has been closed for five school days, four for weather and one for city water problems.
Reed said the Saturday school day will be like a normal day with students and teachers reporting at their normal times and bus routes running as they would any weekday. He also added that it would not affect any sports teams that had games scheduled for that day.
“It will be treated the same as it is for a normal day,” Reed said. “I know this will cause an inconvenience as it does for any made up inclement weather day. We hope it doesn’t cause too many problems for students and teachers.”
