Hartselle officials to meet with Congressional delegation
Hartselle city officials are hoping to make a good impression on the state’s Congressional delegation during its annual trip to Washington, D.C., this week.
Mayor Dwight Tankersley and other city officials will be meeting with Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Huntsville; Rep. Robert Aderholt, R-Haleyville; Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Tuscaloosa; and Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Mobile, during the trip.
Tankersley said the city has seen good response from its previous trips to the nation’s capital.
“We’ve received a number of grants for city projects because of these trips to Washington,” Tankersley said. “We’ve received grants for transportation projects, flood zone mitigation in downtown and other projects. It’s been very productive for the city.”
The top issue for Hartselle is the transportation project on Alabama 36, according to Tankersley. This particular project will be split into three parts.
“We’re currently looking help to fund portion from the interstate to the Roan Road bridge,” Tankersley said.
The other items on the city’s wish list haven’t changed over the last couple of years, Tankersley added. He’s still looking for help with downtown flood zone, emergency sirens to cover all areas within the city limits and equipment grants for the fire department.
“We’re just hoping to get as much help as we can for the city,” Tankersley said.
City leaders will be leaving Tuesday morning from Huntsville and returning on Thursday. All of the appointments are currently scheduled for Wednesday.
