Funeral for Ruby Hodges Owen, 96, of Dacula, Ga., was Saturday, January 29, at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Ridling officiating.
Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Mrs. Owen died Wednesday, January 26, 2011, at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, Ga. She was born June 27, 1914, in Morgan County to John Pruitt Hodges and Nannie Freeman Hodges. She was a native of Hartselle where she taught school in the late 1930s and a resident of Centre where she was a housewife and clerk at Jordan’s Dress Shop. Throughout her lifetime she maintained a joy for life which was contagious to everyone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Columbus Owen who was associate county agent in Cherokee County and two infant sons, Thomas Columbus Owen Jr. and Howard Hugh Owen; her parents; two sisters, Katie Sue Patterson and Willie Mae Evans; and two brothers, Paul Hodges and Pruitt Hodges, all of Hartselle.
She is survived by a daughter, Dr. Mary Pruitt Owen, JD, of Dacula, Ga.
Pallbearers were grandnephews, Blake Tanner, Mal Patterson and Danny Woods; great-grandnephews, Wes Tanner and Gary Woods; and Jim Woods.
