Doing the Lord’s work
Recently a friend mentioned to me that there were folks that actually believed that the churches were not doing their job of taking care of the people who were down on their luck. This took me by surprise that someone would actually think the churches were not showing love to their neighbors.
Apparently they have not had contact with several of the churches here in our town.
First Baptist Hartselle is definitely doing their part. I personally have heard Edith Bennich on the phone trying to get help for a local person in need. From paying for prescription drugs to keeping the power turned on at an elderly citizen’s home.
The needs of many are trying to be met.
Hartselle Church of Christ recently provided over 750 meals for area folks on Christmas Day. They are also very active in missions sending members to all parts of the world to help.
East Highland and West Hartselle Baptist Church send youth groups out each summer to help fill the needs of folks locally and in other parts of the country.
Hartselle Church of the Nazarene has started a food pantry ministry to those in need of food. Salem Methodist also operates a food pantry. First United Methodist has a very active “Good Samaritan” ministry, which operates all year and makes sure that those in need have the necessary ingredients for a Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.
Joy Sue Groover and Nancy Groover work out of “Faith House” at the church, not only providing food and clothing to those seeking help but also ministering to them as well.
This is only a partial list of area churches who are reaching out to meet the physical needs of the citizens of Hartselle. Many others have active programs in place to as Jesus said to Peter-“Feed My Sheep.”
So if you have any doubt that the churches are not taking care of the downtrodden, stop by any of the churches in our town this Sunday and they will be glad to let you volunteer on any of their mission projects.
