Godsey tapped for all-stars
The next Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Football Classic will have two well-known local football coaches, both rivals and good friends, coaching together on the same sideline.
Friday’s announcement that Hartselle head coach Bob Godsey will be the Alabama All-Star staff’s defensive coordinator and Decatur head coach Jere Adcock will be the team’s head coach comes as no surprise.
Even though both coaches are tough rivals when their teams play each other, they share a common coaching background and are close friends. Both were assistant coaches at Decatur High School for two years and Godsey remained on staff as an assistant for two years after Adcock was named head coach.
“It’s a great honor and it’s always nice to be recognized for the work you do,” Godsey said. “However, I view this as a learning opportunity and I realize that any recognition I receive is a compliment to my own coaching staff and the players with whom we work.”
“I’m looking forward to being around some of the best coaches in Alabama and Mississippi, especially coach Adcock. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to work on his staff again.”
Godsey has compiled a 100-40 career record—first at Brooks and more recently at Hartselle. His 2010 Tigers were 10-3 and advanced to the third round of the Class 5A playoffs.
Adcock has a 110-53 record in 15 season as a head coach. He was an assistant coach for the 2006 Alabama All-Stars who won 24-3. He led his team to a 9-2 record in 2010.
The other four assistant coaches on the Alabama All-Star staff are Glenn Vickery of Daphne, Jack Hanklins Jr. of Thomasville, Danny Powell of Leroy, Don Jacobs of Oneonta and Laron White of Tanner.
