Feb. 24, 1961—Thousands of Canadian waterfowl began their annual migration from the Wheeler Refuge to their home area tonight. They will travel multiple thousands of miles before they reach their destination.
Feb. 24, 1961—William Lindsey is currently suing another man in Morgan County circuit court for damages he contends he sustained in an auto accident here in Hartselle on Highway 36 back in July of last year. He is seeking $10,000 from the defendant.
Feb. 25, 1961—Funeral services were held this morning at the First Christian Church for Miss Bertha Lee who passed away at her home on Sloss Street on Wednesday. Miss Lee’s local survivors include a sister, Mrs. E. H. Sharpley; a sister-in-law, Mrs. C. I. Lee; and nieces Mrs. J. V. Henderson and Mrs. Lloyd Logan. Miss Lee’s late brother, C. I. Lee, was one of Hartselle’s most prominent citizens in the early part of this century and had its first auto dealership.
Feb. 25, 1961—Several girls from MCHS were in Decatur today for a regional FHA meeting. The MCHS chapter was one of 67 participating in the conference which included 12 counties.
Feb. 25, 1961—A caravan of about 40 cars the occupants of which were robed Ku Klux Klansmen passed through Hartselle on Highway 31 tonight.
Feb. 26, 1961—Silas Wright, Hartselle 4, had two fender skirts stolen off his 1956 Chevy while he was waiting inside the Decatur train station tonight.
Feb. 27, 1961—Miss Italyne Hardwick spoke at a meeting of the International Garden Club in Decatur. Her subject was two-fold, birds native to Alabama and birds mentioned in the Bible. Both the mocking bird and the cat bird fall into the latter category. The dove is the most noted bird in the Scriptures. In all 31 species are identified a total of 175 times.
Feb. 27, 1961—Mrs. Martha Cornell and children, Patterson and Carolyn, arrived from California today for a visit with her mother, Mrs. S. E. Stewart, Jr., on Hickory Street.
Feb. 28, 1961—Dee Proctor directed a group of National Guardsmen who were working downtown Hartselle in behalf of the Morgan County Heart Fund campaign today.
March 1, 1961—MCHS beat Butler of Huntsville tonight by the score of 64-37, thereby advancing to the semi-finals of the eighth district basketball tournament. Hartselle’s leading scorers were Vest with 19 and Speegle with 10 points.
March 1, 1961—The junior class of Falkville High put on their annual play tonight. Fred Evans, Rodger Henson, and Betty Davis had leading roles in the production.
March 1, 1961—Graveside services were held today for the newborn son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Drake, 400 Stewart Street, Hartselle. In addition to his parents, the infant is survived by two sisters, Faye and Betty Jane, and two brothers, Grady and Robert.
March 2, 1961 – Morgan County truck crop farmers met with John Bagby, an Auburn University specialist in this area of agriculture at the county agent’s office here in Hartselle.
