Help us ‘toon out cancer’
Dear Editor:
My name is Tresa McGhee and I am this year’s chair for Relay for Life in Hartselle. Relay for Life is sponsored by the American Cancer Society, and it is a big part of what makes the American Cancer Society so successful. As a cancer survivor, I choose to give my time and donations to the Relay for Life because of the strong support ACS has for research. I am a firm believer that through research a cure for cancer will be found.
Relay for Life is an overnight event, it will begin at 6 p.m. on April 29, at J.P. Cain Stadium and end at 6 a.m. on April 30. The purpose of the overnight event is to show that cancer never sleeps and to show that our effort to find a cure does not either. It is a wonderful night to pay respect to those we have lost and to honor those who have survived their battle with cancer. Family and friends, survivors and caregivers, we all walk together.
Relay is made up of teams representing churches, businesses, families, schools, etc that raise money. All of this money goes towards the American Cancer Society’s mission to help people stay well, get well, find cures, and fight back.
The theme of our Relay this year is “Toonin’ Out Cancer”. Each team will pick a cartoon and decorate their campsite in accordance with the theme.
I can promise you if you come to Relay, you will be touched. You will laugh and probably cry at some point during the event. It is a family event, there will be lots of great food, prizes, entertainment, games, and so much more.
There are many people who make Relay possible each year through their support and extremely hard work. Thank you to our cancer survivors, it is our honor to share this evening with you. Thank you to our caregivers, we couldn’t do it without you. Thank you to our Mayor and the city of Hartselle for your tremendous support. To our sponsors, you make this night possible, thank you. Many thanks to our teams, it is your dedication that keeps us growing. To our school board for allowing us to use the stadium, it is a perfect location. And to any others that are a part of relay that I failed to mention. And lastly, thank you to our Relay For Life Committee, it is a pleasure to serve with such wonderful people.
Please join us for the Hartselle Relay for Life, April 29 beginning at 6 p.m. at J.P. Cain Stadium. It’s going to be a party that you will never forget.
