Senior recognized for helping IRC
A Hartselle High School senior has been recognized for endearing himself to Hartselle High School’s special needs students.
Bill Fulmer, an honor student, solicited financial support from Hartselle businesses and spent many hours of work building an outdoor basketball court at the IRC Center on Hartselle High School’s campus. He took on the community service project to meet the requirements for earning the Eagle Scout badge.
Fulmer was introduced during the halftime of a Hartselle IRC vs. Huntsville Career Technical School basketball game on Feb. 16 and presented a framed certificate of appreciation to commemorate his achievement.
“Bill and his family are to be commended for taking on such a huge project,” said IRC director Lee Anne Pettey.
”The court is already being used by our students, especially the basketball players who make up our Special
Olympics team. “We’re so thankful to have it.”
A Boy Scout for 11 years, Fulmer is a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the school’s Scholars Bowl Team for the past four years and a Mu Alpha Theta officer. He represented Hartselle High last summer as a Daikin Home Stay student to Japan, was chosen by his peers as a senior Who’s Who selection, is a member of the school’s Ambassador’s program and was homecoming runner-up king this year.
Her plans to enroll in college this fall and study engineering.
He is the son of Darryl and Diane Fulmer and the grandson of Shirley Teal.
