Morgan ranks 9th, Hartselle grows by 18.6 percent
Morgan County is now the ninth most populated county in Alabama and Hartselle grew by 18.6 percent over the last decade, according to recently released data by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Hartselle’s population is 14,255, up from 12,019 in 2000. That is an increase of 2,236.
Priceville had an explosion of growth from 2000 to 2010. The municipality now has a population of 2,658, an increase of 1,027 residents or 63 percent.
Somerville more than doubled its population in the latest Census numbers. The town has 724 residents for an increase of 109 percent. The 2000 population was just 347.
Falkville grew by 77 residents to 1,279 through the last decade.
The county now has 119,490 residents, which is an increase of 8,426 from the 2000 Census numbers. That is a 7.6 percent increase over the last decade.
The county population increase is similar to the entire state, which saw a 7.5 percent increase from 2000. Alabama’s population is now 4,779,736.
Decatur is still the eighth largest city in Alabama with 55,683, up from 53,929 in 2000.
