Area placed under flood watch

The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a flood watch for Morgan County for tonight through Wednesday.

Heavy rainfall of 1.5 to 2.5 inches with locally higher amounts to 3 inches is possible tonight through Wednesday as a storm system impacts the region.

Soils and creeks remain water logged from rainfall that occurred over the weekend. Additional heavy rainfall from this system will quickly runoff, pushing rivers and creeks out of their banks with minor to moderate flooding possible.

A cold front will approach the Tennessee Valley from the west tonight and move through the area by Wednesday evening. Showers and embedded thunderstorms will begin to impact the area as early as this afternoon, but the majority of the heavy rainfall will occur late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
