Orrin S. ‘Sam’ Doolittle, Somerville

Orrin S. ‘Sam’ Doolittle, 77, Somerville, died Monday, March 7, 2011 at Decatur General Hospital. He was born June 11, 1933, in Ocqueoc, Township, Presque Isle County, Mich. to Beatron and Ruth Doolittle.
Mr. Doolittle served 25 years of honorable military service in the Army before retiring in 1975. He then drove a truck for another 25 years before retiring again in the 1990’s. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceeded in death by his parents and a son James.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; two daughters, Patricia Madden and husband Stuart of Brighten, Mich., Cynthia Rodericks and husband David of Brick, N.J.; two sons, Michael and Matthew of Torrance, Calif.; stepchildren, Jeff Reed and wife Peggy of Tullahoma, Tenn., Jerry Reed and wife Donna of Columbia, S.C. Jimmy Reed and wife Joy of Mulberry, Tenn. and Melissa Gatlin and husband Nick of Franklin, Tenn. and a step granddaughter, Mindy Echert and husband Josh of Manchester, Tenn.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, George Doolittle and wife, Shirley of Lansing, Mich., a sister, Judith Church of Tower, Mich; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service with full military honors will be announced later by Peck Funeral Home.
