Funeral for Betty Palmer Parker, 75, of Hartselle will be Saturday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Redmond, Bro. Brooks Barkley and Bro. Charles Shaddix (music) officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Visitation will be Friday, March 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Parker died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at her residence. She was born May 22, 1935, in Marion County to Lee Roy Palmer and Margaret Lucile Palmer. She was an only child and a graduate of Morgan County High School in 1953 where she was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. She also graduated from Auburn University in 1957, with a degree in Business. She was an employee of the City of Hartselle for almost 20 years, retiring June 1, 2000. She served as Hartselle City Clerk for nearly 17 years and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Alabama League of Municipalities in 2000 in recognition of her outstanding performance in promoting the aim and objectives of the league. She was also state certified as a municipal clerk and a public personnel administrator. She previously worked at Pineview Hospital as Director of Volunteer Services. She was a long time member of Hartselle First Baptist Church teaching several generations and serving in various other capacities at the church as needed. She struggled with advance COPD for several years. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend who knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour. She strove to always keep the Lord as her priority in all things and sought to be a blessing for as long as she lived by serving and ministering to others. Her friendship, guidance, laughter and love will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; Lee and Lucille Palmer; a grandson and Jerrod Parker (Kevin’s son).
She is survived by three sons, Lee Parker and wife Donna of Katy, Texas, Kevin Parker and wife Michelle of Ashville and Frank Parker and wife Joy of Gardendale; and seven grandchildren, Amanda, Brent and Cameron Parker, Chris and Brian Parker and Zachary and William Parker.
Pallbearers will be Amanda Parker, Chris Parker, Brent Parker, Brian Parker, Cameron Parker, William Parker and Zachary Parker.
