Hartselle police looking for stolen Mustangs
Hartselle police are looking for a white 2006 model Mustang GT and the person or persons responsible for taking it from the Anderson Motor Co. lot on Highway 31, South, on Tuesday, March 15. The lot was closed from about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday to about 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16.
The sports car is owned by Tim Stephenson and had been on display in the parking lot for four or five weeks. It was parked sideways to traffic on Highway 31 and was blocked in closely by two pickup trucks.
“I believe it was targeted by a thief who was interested in that particular model car and was taken in the wee hours of the morning,” said Aubrey Anderson, owner of the car lot. “We had it blocked in good front and back and whoever stole it had to have the right kind of equipment and know what they were doing.
Stephenson has a car dealer’s license and sells used cars from a lot on Highway 31, north, next to his chiropractic practice; however, he said he felt that the mustang would be safer and a little more visible to prospective buyers on Anderson’s lot.
Lt. Justin Barkley of Hartselle Police Department’s investigation division said the car’s theft is the subject of an on-going investigation.
“We’ve had five Mustangs ranging from 1988 to 2010 models stolen within the city limits over the past year,” stated Barley. “We just don’t know if they have a target on their backs or not because when you include all other stolen vehicles we’ve had over the last year and run a percentage, the figure for Mustangs is pretty small.”
“We don’t have much evidence to work with in this case so we’re asking anyone who was in this area on March 15-16 and saw something out of the ordinary to contact us. The number to call is 256-773-6534.
