Funeral for Maycell Kennemer Smith, 76, of Hartselle, formerly of Athens, was Tuesday, March 22, at 6 p.m. at Hartselle Church of Christ with Bros. Jimmy Clark and Phillip Hines and J.H. Bullington officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Dement Cemetery in Athens on Wednesday, March 23, at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Smith died Sunday, March 20, 2011. Her passions were serving others, working in her flower garden and making quilts by hand. She had a natural way with children and throughout her lifetime provided childcare for numerous children she loved as her very own. She was a Godly wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and was devoted to friends she made throughout her life. She had a very special relationship with her sisters. Some of her best memories were her annual trips taken with them and their husbands. She was preceded in death by her parents, Flora Elizabeth Robertson Kennemer and Andrew Timotheus Kennemer and a sister, Bonnie Kennemer Reeves.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald Ralph Smith; two daughters, Beth Fuller and husband Harry of Hartselle and Shellee Smith of Sugar Hill, Ga.; a son, Donald Ralph Smith II of Austin, Tex.; grandsons, Jay Wilson Chittam and wife Karen of McCalla, Tyler Stewart Christopher of Alpharetta, Ga. and Corey Michael Christopher of Denver, Colo.; a granddaughter, Casie Chittam Kimbrell and husband Josh of Decatur; a great-granddaughter, Madelyn Elizabeth Chittam of McCalla; a great-grandson, Macin Riley Kimbrell of Decatur; sisters, Louise Woodfin and Imogene James and husband Duel, all of Florence, Elizabeth Wilson and husband Ed of Searcy, Ark. and Naomi Phillips Abernathy and husband Elton; brother-in-law, Marvin Smith and wife Annie Ruth of Athens; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Richard White, Paul Smith Jr., Chris Preston, Danny Phillips, Roger Phillips and Marty James.
