Focusing on our local arts
Each year the Hartselle Enquirer publishes its annual “Progress” edition and this year’s is almost ready. The topics are varied and we do our best to highlight a different segment of our community each year. This edition is our largest of the year and takes several months of work to prepare. It is a team effort of the newspaper staff and one that we really enjoy presenting to our readers. We have covered topics from area schools, local sports, local heroes, unusual local folk lore, historical events and community pride. This year we have decided to focus on the arts in our community.
Hartselle has always been known for its sporting events and teams. Usually when you mention Hartselle to someone from another area sporting events are often the topic of conversation. But many may not know that Hartselle is also home to many folks who are very talented in the world of art. We have published authors in our town, writers of poetry, songs, literature, and even newspaper writers. We have artists of water colors and oil. We have musicians from choral groups to those who are performing on the stage in other areas of the country.
Hartselle also has a local group of folks who work tirelessly to promote the theatre for all ages. College Street players who make their home at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center promote the arts through the various productions the group presents several times each year. Many of our local citizens have performed over the years in various productions and shared their talent with our citizens.
We even believe in promoting the arts to our younger citizens as well. Each June for the past several years the Hartselle Fine Arts Center offers Camp-Art’Selle. This camp offers an opportunity for elementary age children to spend a week being exposed to many art forms. The camp culminates with the campers performing for the community and sharing what they have learned during the week.
We hope you enjoy this year’s “Celebration of the Arts” available March 31, and find out more about what Hartselle has to offer by way of the arts. Also, as you spend time reading this edition please take note of the advertisers who participated and patronize their businesses since without them we would not be able to bring this special edition to you each year.
