Time for spring cleaning
Spring is here. It’s the time of year for budding flowers, pollen, warmer weather and, of course, spring cleaning.
If you’re going to be doing some cleaning this weekend, you’re in luck. March 28 through April 2 is the annual Morgan County Spring Cleanup. During this week, the City of Hartselle and Morgan County will lend a hand in disposing of excess trash.
If you’re a resident of Hartselle, you can put your large trash items at the end of your driveway and the city will pick it up next week. I know that the city normally does that for a $10 fee per load, but during this week only, all of that trash pickup is free.
As long as your trash is left out for pickup by April 2, the city will pick it up without any charge.
For those of you who don’t live inside the city, you can still haul your trash to the Decatur-Morgan County landfill at Trinity to dispose of junk items at no charge from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturday.
You may also dispose of unwanted items by taking them to district shops 1-4 at the following times:
• District #1 – Central Parkway below the railroad overpass on the Beltline in Decatur, Saturday only 7 to 11 a.m. (due to limited space and close proximity to the landfill).
• District #2 – Shull Road north of Homestyle Bar-B-Que at I-65 and Alabama 36 in Hartselle, Monday-Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 7 to 11 a.m.
• District #3 – County Road 55 east of Falkville at Cole Springs, Monday-Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 7 to 11 a.m.
• District #4 – Union Hill Road, 3/4 mile east of Cotaco, Monday-Thursday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, 7 to 11 a.m.
However, there are a few exceptions to what can be disposed during this week. Unaccepted items include roof shingles, tires, paint, household garbage, lumber or hazardous chemicals.
I think this county cleanup is a great idea. This is the perfect time to clean out your homes, garages, storage buildings, yards, etc.
I’d like to commend the city and the county for promoting this cleanup. Let’s make Hartselle and Morgan County be as clean as possible.
