Decatur man dies in tractor-trailer crash
A Decatur man was killed Tuesday night in a wreck near the Thompson Road exit of I-65 northbound, a crash that was apparently caused by another wreck further north on I-65.
The victim has been identified as Eliseo Lira, 45, of Decatur. The driver of the 18-wheeler, who was not injured, was Donald Bougie, 52, of Cowan, Tenn. The accident occurred at 7:02 p.m. involving an 18-wheeler and a car.
“Hartselle Police were investigating a separate traffic accident further north on I-65 and it is believed the victim of the fatality accident was slowing down when he was struck from behind by the 18-wheeler,” said Lt. Justin Barley. “The victim was transported to Hartselle Medical Center and later pronounced dead at the hospital.”
The accident is still under investigation. No more details are available at this time.
