Lady Tigers go 1-2 in Bob Jones tourney
Hartselle’s Lady Tigers struggled with their hitting in the Bob Jones/Huntsville Hospital Softball Tournament in Huntsville last weekend, losing back-to-back contests after winning their opener,
The No. 2 Lady Tigers (21-4) got off to a good start in pool play Friday evening by thumping Oak Mountain 6-3, but lost their next two games under the international tiebreaker rule.
Against Oak Mountain, they got hits from four players. Olivia Golden had a triple, an RBI, scored a run and stole a base; Leah Robinson doubled and scored a run; Ashley Bonner doubled, singled, had an RBI and scored a run; and Katie Gentle doubled, had 2 RBIs and scored a run.
Kayla Faulk pitched four innings and was credited with the win. She allowed three runs on six hits and had four strikeouts. Breanna Riley pitched two innings in relief, allowing no runs on a hit and struck out three.
In the second pool play game, the Lady Tigers managed only two hits and fell to Northview of Dothan, 3-1, in eight innings. The scored was 1-1 after seven innings.
Hartselle’s only hits came from Lindsey Romager with a double and Robinson with a single.
Riley pitched the entire game, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out 14 batters and walking one.
The Lady Tigers were eliminated by Hoover, 4-1, in their first tournament game on Saturday. It was 0-0 after seven innings.
Bonner had a single for Hartselle’s only hit and Allie Hill reached first on a walk.
Abby McHugh pitched all eight innings and took the loss. She allowed four runs on four hits and recorded eight strikeouts.

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers blanked East Limestone 15-0 on the strength of 10 hits and no-run pitching at the Grady and Margie Long Softball Complex on Mar. 29.
Bennich blasted two home runs and had four RBIs in leading Hartselle at the plate. Emily Nix had a double, single, five RBIs and scored two runs. Faulk had two singles, drove in a run and scored two runs, Jacquie Shadden belted a pair of singles and scored three runs and Holt added a pair singles and scored two runs.
Faulk was the winning pitcher. She allowed one hit, one walk and struck out two in four innings.
The Lady Tigers are scheduled to play Athens on the road Thursday (today) and will participate in the Ardmore Invitational Tournament Friday and Saturday.
