Two face drug charges following traffic stop
Two men were arrested and are facing drug charges following a traffic stop at Gray Road and Alabama 36 East Saturday, April 2.
Jason Glenn Day, 40, of 29 Day Road in Somerville and Todd William Wiessner, 39, of 6963 Alabama 36 East in Valhermosa Springs were both charged with unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance in the second degree and unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Their bonds were set at $7,500.
According to a Morgan County Sheriff’s Department press release, a deputy stopped a pickup truck at Gray Road and Highway 36 East, occupied by the two suspects. Deputies located alcoholic beverages in the truck. A further search revealed a quantity of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and two boxes of pseudoephedrine in the truck.
A narcotics agent was called to the scene and a further investigation led agents to the residence of Day.
Agents from the Morgan County Drug Task Force, Decatur’s Organized Crime Unit and the Alabama Beverage Control went to 29 Day Road Somerville and searched the residence. The agents located another large quantity of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, other controlled substances, a rifle and remnants of a “clandestine” methamphetamine lab, which was located in the attic of the residence.
Agents had received information from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office investigators involving Day possibly having stolen merchandise at his residence. The investigator was dispatched and is currently identifying various items believed to be involved with on-going investigations.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges or arrests are anticipated.
