Funeral for Jimmie Lee Evans, 87, of Hartselle was Saturday, April 9, at 1 p.m. at Hartselle Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Thomas officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Evans died Monday, April 4, 2011, at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born November 6, 1923, in Selma to Willie Harris Sr. and Emma Evans-Harris. He leaves his family and friends to cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Walter Evans and wife Janie; two brothers, Willie Jr. Harris and Isaiah Harris; and a sister, Bessie Todd.
He is survived by a daughter, Willie Ruth Cain and husband Elka of Wetumpka; a brother, McArthur Harris and wife Queenie of Bronx, N.Y.; six sisters, Emma Coleman of New York, N.Y., Austrailia Yearling of Foley, Earnestine Murphy of Lebanon, Penn., Mamie D. Perkins and Shirley A. McNeil, both of Selma, and a devoted sister, Mary D. Harris of Huntsville; a brother-in-law, John Todd of Selma; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a special granddaughter, Jackie Holt (my fat baby); a host of nieces and nephews and cousins; and devoted friends, Clarence Vick, William George, Bessie Smith, Boo, Matthew and Dr. Duke.
