The big night is here
Wow!
Folks, it is hard to believe it is time for yet another prom night. Hartselle High students will celebrate the annual event Saturday night at Sparkman Civic Center.
As a parent this will be my last prom, since my son is a senior this year. I will be praying that all the students play it smart and have a safe and memorable night to carry forward into their future. Hartselle High School has a great faculty and student body and much work goes into making this event a success.
The tuxes have been rented, the dresses bought, flowers ordered, dinner reservations made, and decorations are in progress.
Even after 31 years, I think I still remember our prom theme being “We’ve Got Tonight,” but with my memory getting shorter I could be wrong about the title.
Even though the memories are still there the best memories are of watching your child participate in this event and knowing they are reaching a turning point in their life. They are no longer a child, but a person growing into a young adult.
Even though they are growing up, sometimes the decisions made are not always the best and there are consequences for actions taken.
One of the best things that I have witnessed in the past few years is a mock accident scene staged for the students during the week of prom. One bad decision could lead to a lifetime of regret.
The Hartselle Police Department and the other volunteers do a great job of helping the kids see what could happen from drinking and other choices that they can make. Hopefully this will be ingrained into their memories and will make them stop and think before doing something they may regret later.
I hope the 2011 Hartselle High Prom is the best ever.
The students have worked hard all year and are deserving of a good time. For the seniors this should be a night you will remember for the rest of your life.
For all the parents we should have plenty of photo opportunities and time to watch our children achieve another milestone. So for all please have a good time and enjoy yourself but please stay safe and do not do anything that would put yourself or others in danger.
We want all of our memories of this year to be great.
