Burks leads Hartselle at Bob Jones, Austin
Hartselle High School’s Quanesha Burks pulled off two first and two second place wins to lead her team to a fourth place finish in the girl’s division of the Patriot Games at Bob Jones High School in Madison March 25.
She came in first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.13 and won the long jump with a distance of 17-5.5. Her second place wins came in the 100-meter dash where she finished with a time of 12.65 and in the triple jump where she posted a distance of 32-09.75.
Hartselle’s girl’s team compiled 51 points and finished fourth in a 20-team field of competitors. The boy’s team finished ninth in their division with 20 points.
Hartselle girls who finished 10th on better in the competition are listed as follows:
Girls 4×100 relay—Samantha Allen, Alex Harris, Samaria Morrow and Jessica Hickerson, seventh; girls 4×400 relay—Mary Filiatrault, Harris, Allen and Hickerson, eighth; long jump—Samaria Morrow, 10th; javelin throw—Jessica Matthews.
Hartselle boys finishing in 10th place or better are listed as follows:
100-meter hurdles—Jordan Frazier, fourth; long jump—Trevor Sharpley, third; and triple jump–Sharpley, fifth.
Burks gets four wins at Austin Invitational
On April 9, Burks earned wins in all four of her events to lead the Lady Tigers at Austin.
Burks’ time of 12.15 to qualify in the 100-meter dash was good enough to meet the national silver standard. It was nearly four-tenths of a second faster than second place.
She also won the 200 meters with 25.26 after running 25.12 in her heat race.
She also won the long jump with 16-11.5 and the triple jump with 34-5.
Samaria Morrow was third in long jump (13-6). Jessica Matthews took third in javelin with 84-5. The Hartselle girls relay team of Allen, Harris, Morrow and Hickerson took sixth with 54.45.
On the boys side, Jordan Frazier placed third in the 110-meter hurdles (16.12), 300-meter hurdles (42.99) and long jump (19-7). Trevor Sharpley took second in the high jump (5-8), fourth in long jump (19-4) and third in triple jump (38-3).
Hunter Grantland also finished fifth and seventh respectively in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. The 4×400 relay finished fourth. D’Andre Mack took fifth in the triple jump (35-10.5). Lynn Mullins was fourth in javelin (123-7).
