Lady Tigers come up short in county
Hartselle’s Lady Tigers, missing 10 varsity players, came up short in their attempt to win a third Morgan County softball title in four years on Saturday as they lost to Priceville 12-2 in the semifinal round.
In earlier pool play games, with a full varsity roster, they defeated both Austin, the eventual county champion, and Princeville, the runner-up, while losing to West Morgan.
The Lady Tigers played with four varsity players and nine junior varsity players. The other team members opted to participate in their school’s annual junior-senior prom.
The Lady Tigers collected just five hits. Sarah Ellen Battles had a single and scored a run, Amber Hicks had an RBI double and Emily Nix, Savannah Holmes and Allie Hill each singled.
Kayla Faulk pitched three innings and took the loss.
HHS 12, Danville 2
Hartselle out-hit Danville 11-5 and went on to post a win over the Lady Hawks in the opening round of the tournament on Saturday.
Leading the Lady Tigers at the plate was Baylee Holt with four singles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Madeline Sittason had a triple and a single, three RBIs and scored three runs. Tori Miller tripled, scored a run and had an RBI.
Kayla Faulk tripled and singled. Amber Hicks singled and scored a run and Savannah Holmes singled.
Faulk pitched four innings and was credited with the win. She allowed two runs on five hits while striking out three batters. Savannah Holmes pitched the final inning with a strikeout.
HHS 8, PHS 3
Hartselle’s Lady Tigers defeated Priceville 8-3 in a final pool play game.
Breanna Riley shut out the Lady Bulldogs for four innings, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out eight and walking one.
Chelsea Bennich led Hartselle’s hitters with a pair of singles, an RBI and a run scored. Leah Robinson tripled and scored two runs.
Shadden singled and had two RBIs. Riley singled and had an RBI. Lindsey Romager singled, walked and had an RBI; Golden singled and scored a run. Ashley Bonner walked, drove in a run and scored twice while Meghan Stephenson walked and scored a run.
