Local residents deploy to Afghanistan
Eight Marines from Morgan County attached to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Marines, Battery K, stationed in U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Training, Huntsville, Ala., recently deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The Marines are: Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Justin C. Billings of Hartselle, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. James A. Burgess of Falkville, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Evan L. Burgess of Falkville, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jose M. Gardner of Danville, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Logan L. Lemmond of Hartselle, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Cory R. Hill of Falkville, Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Anthony M. Reinoehl of Eva and Marine Corps Pfc. Francis J. Walter of Somerville.
Billings is a 2006 graduate of Hartselle High School. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve in July 2007.
James Burgess and Evan Burgess are the sons of Carol D. and James A. Burgess of Falkville. James Burgess is a 2004 graduate of Falkville High School and joined the Marine Corps Reserve in December 2007. Evan Burgess is a 2008 graduate of Falkville High School and joined the Marine Corps Reserve in June 2008.
Gardner is son of Norma V. and Daniel C. Gardner of Danville. He is a 2008 graduate of Danville High School and joined the Marine Corps Reserve in May 2009.
Lemmond is the son of Kim L. and Jeffery D. Lemmond of Hartselle. He is a 2007 graduate of Hartselle High School and joined the Marine Corps Reserve in June 2007.
Hill is a 2008 graduate of Falkville High School and joined the Marine Corps Reserve in June 2008.
Reinoehl is the son of Kathy Reinoehl and Mike Reinoenl of Eva. He is a 2007 graduate of Albert. P. Brewer High School and joined the Marine Corps Reserve in June 2008.
Walter is a 2009 graduate of Albert P. Brewer High School. He joined the Marine Corps Reserve in January 2010.
Marines assigned to a firing battery are responsible for moving, loading, firing, protecting and maintaining the cannon weapon systems.
Battery K will provide rocket and missile fire support for Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) and Joint Task Force (JTF) operations, in support of OEF.
