City to replace fuel system
The Hartselle City Council made an emergency purchase of an estimated $22,000 computer software system for its city fuel pumps.
Mayor Dwight Tankersley said he considered this purchase an emergency because the city could not accurately keep track of how much is being distributed. The city also sells fuel to Hartselle Utilities and the Hartselle Board of Education.
“Right now, we’re on an honor system with them,” Tankersley said. “I think it’s an emergency because we could lose revenue because we’re not accurately keeping track of what’s being distributed from our gas pumps.”
Director of Development Jeff Johnson said the city must accurately keep track of the fuel for the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and the Alabama Department of Revenue.
“I have to keep accurate records of what comes out of our pumps,” Johnson said. “The system we have now is keeping track of it, but we have no way to get that information without printing it out. Because our printer is broken, we have no way to get that information.”
Because an emergency has been declared, Hartselle city officials can purchase the necessary equipment without having to bid it.
