Herman Lazelle ‘Shorty’ Harwell

Funeral for Herman Lazelle “Shorty” Harwell, 75, of Hartselle will be Wednesday, May 4, at 1 p.m. at Spry Funeral Home Chapel in Athens with Phillip Hines and Charles Balcom officiating.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 3, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Harwell died Thursday, April 28, at his residence. He was born January 2, 1936, in Limestone County. He was a retired mechanic and a member of Hartselle Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Marie Barnett Harwell of Hartselle; two sons, Tim Harwell and wife Paula of Decatur and Jim Harwell of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Debra Slagle and husband Joe and Tina Brewer and husband David, all of Hartselle; six grandchildren, Daniel Harwell, Sarah Slagle, Ashley Smith, Christopher Harwell, Cody Harwell and Allison Slagle; five great-grandchildren, Kaden Smith, Brooklon Smith, Elijah Harwell, Tyler Harwell, Dominick Harwell; three brothers, Vaugh Harwell and wife Shirley and Johnny Harwell and wife Jeanne, all of Trinity and Bobby Harwell and wife Starlett of Athens; two sisters, Madeline Bailey of Minor Hill,, Tenn. and Joan Stockton and husband Rick of Longview, Texas; brother-in-law, Billy Barnett of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Don Hester, James Bobo, Jackie Chambers, Tommy Elmore, Clarence Walls and Louie McGill.
