Falkville’s girls take second in Class 2A
Falkville’a girls track team edged LaFayette for second place while the boys team finished 10th in the Class 2A State Track & Field Meet at Birmingham-Southern College.
The girls team thanks to several events where multiple Lady Blue Devils finished in the top eight, which counts toward the team points.
Areal Williams was the runner-up finisher in the girls 400-meter dash with 1:03.78. Patricia Kilgore was fourth with 1:05.21, immediately followed by Sarah Ayre with 1:05.31. The winning time was 1:02.5 by Rachel Howell of Cottage Hill.
Hiliary Eason took third in the shot put with a throw of 35-3 and third in the discus throw with 97-3. Teammates Tiana Drinkard and Angela Robbins were fourth (95-4) and seventh (88-11) respectively in the discus.
Jaclyn Koerber cleared 8 feet to tie for third place in the girls pole vault while Heather Smith cleared 7 feet for a seventh place finish.
Koerber and Amber Riddle were sixth (18.41) and seventh (18.98) in the girls 100-meter hurdles. Riddle and Williams were fifth (51.48) and seventh (51.52) in the 300-meter hurdles.
Kilgore finished third in the 800 meters (2:29.72) and third in the 1,600 meters (5:30.56).
In the javelin, Tiana Drinkard finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 104 feet. Hiliary Eason was eighth with 93-8 while Angela Robbins was 20th with 67.
Patricia Kilgore was third in the 1,600 meters with 5:30.56 while Katrina Koerber finished 20th with 6:53.31.
Autum Eddy took fifth in the long jump with 14-5.75, tied for sixth in the high jump with an attempt of 4-6 and also scored a point for Falkville with an eighth place finish in the girls triple jump with 30 feet.
The 4×400 team of Williams, Amber Riddle, Natalie Estes and Kilore was second (4:26.66). The 4×800 relay of Estes, Amber Niclo, Ayre and Katrina Koerber was fifth (9:05.01) while the 4×100 relay of Krista McCabe, Riddle, Jaclyn Koerber and Eddy was seventh (55.64).
Falkville’s girls team had 93 points while LaFayette had 91. American Christian was the overall winner with 114.50.
The 4×800 boys relay was fifth with 9:01.83 while the girls relay was sixth with 12:19.64. However, Falkville’s boys still retain the Class 2A record of 8:22.56 because Altamont’s winning time was nearly 11 seconds slower.
Heath Blanchard was seventh (2:06.69) in the boys 800 meters. Altamont’s Feras Awad came close to Falkville’s record in the 800 meters (1:58.31) set by Shane Edge, but Awad ran a flat 2-minute time.
The boys 4×100 relay was fifth (46.85).
Travis Sumerel and Clay Kyle tied for third and sixth respectively in the boys pole vault. Canaan Smith was fourth in the javelin with 153-4.
Travis Cole was sixth on in the 300-meter hurdles.
