Priceville wins area tournament
The Priceville softball team won the area championship by defeating Good Hope 7-0 Friday in the championship round.
The Lady Bulldogs won their first two games on Thursday to face Good Hope in the championship round Friday. Good Hope won the first game 9-4, but Priceville only had to win one of the two games to clinch the area title.
Priceville will face the Area 16 runner-up at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 13.
Before the championship round, coach Chris Odom told his team that Shayna Bond would get them the win after her sister, Meaghan, was sore from pitching three games in two days.
“She did a great job of keeping them off balance and stepping up like a senior should,” Odom said.” It was a complete game for the entire team as everyone contributed in the win.”
Shayna Bond scattered eight hits and a walk while striking out two in the shutout.
There was no score until the fourth inning when Amber Johnson doubled in Kara Haynes, courtesy runner for the inning leadoff batter Brittany Marks.
Priceville prevented Good Hope from scoring and turned a 6-3-2 double play in the bottom of the frame.
The Lady Bulldogs broke the game open in the fifth inning with five runs and added an insurance run in the seventh.
Meaghan Bond and Johnson led the way with a single, double and a run each. Johnson had three RBIs while Meaghan Bond had one.
Danielle Richard also had a double with two runs scored. Shayna Bond helped her cause with a double and an RBI.
Good Hope 9, PHS 4
Priceville gave up six runs in the first three ininngs and could never recover. Richard had two doubles, a single and scored twice. Marks had two hits, two RBIs and a run. Amber Johnson also had two doubles, an RBI and a run.
