Funeral for Joel Don “J.D.” Lawrence, 87, of Hartselle was Sunday, May 15, at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Pearl Jenkins and Dave Bailey officiating.

Burial was in Falkville City Cemetery.

Mr. Lawrence died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at “Tut” Fann State Veterans Home in Huntsville. He was born April 14, 1924, in Morgan County to Joe Lawrence and Dora Compton Lawrence. He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church. He was retired from NASA as an electronic technician and was a veteran of World War 2.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Lawrence of Hartselle; two sons, Gary Don Lawrence of Mt. Airy, N.C. and Brian K. Lawrence of Kennesaw, Ga.; a daughter, Linda Huskey of Hartselle; a sister, Marie Blackwood of Cullman; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jerry Johnson, Scott Huskey, Joel Thomas Lawrence, Tyler Cronin, Trent Cronin and Mark Cole.

Honorary pallbearers were Tim Laney, Derril Shelton, Milford Fields, Bill Lewis, Hank Summerford and Garland Roper.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army.
