BBQ cook-off attracts big crowd

Douglas and Linda Johnson sample barbecue at the second annual Cotton Pickin' BBQ Cook-Off Friday.

The second annual Cotton Pickin’ BBQ Cook-Off drew large crowds Friday and Saturday into downtown Hartselle to get a taste of some barbecue.

Awards were given in both professional and backyard competitions for the best barbecue for various categories along with an overall grand champion. Event attendees could also sample barbecue and vote for their own favorite.

Officials also received resolutions from Gov. Robert Bentley and the Alabama Legislature designating the event as an official barbecue cook-off.
