BOE cuts 5 jobs
The Hartselle Board of Education cut five positions from its staff, but none of the cuts will affect full-time teaching positions.
At its regular meeting Tuesday, Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed recommended cuts for three part-time child nutrition positions, a time-out aide and an instructional aide.
The school system is slated to lose at least five teacher units in the next school year, but Reed said at a previous meeting that he hoped that most of the cuts would be made with attrition and retirements.
School board president Jennifer Sittason said she was pleased with the effort of the school principals, teachers and other employees to limit the number of cuts. She said that some teachers went ahead and retired to make room for teachers that might have been cut due to a lack of funding.
“It really speaks to the people of Hartselle the way we made this work,” Sittason said.
