Shady Grove Baptist plans Bible school June 12-16

Shady Grove Baptist Church will conduct vacation Bible school Sunday, June 12, through Thursday, June 16. Hours will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. with classes available for children of ages pre-school through the sixth grade. The theme will be “Big Apple Adventure.”
Massey Volunteer Fire Department met June 2 with six members in attendance. Fire fighters participated in a training session on the operation of their fire-fighting vehicles. The focus was on water supply. They also reviewed precautions about stress caused by extreme heat. They also practiced the operation of a new floodlight on truck #159. A debriefing was held on a wreck on Highway 157, which involved an overturned beer truck.

Shady Grove Baptist Church members express congratulations to the following extended family graduates: Zack Alred and Kelsey Roberts, grandchildren of Helen Alred; Payton Boyd, granddaughter of Dale and Betty Boyd; Hannah Little Burch, granddaughter of Clyde and Levonia Gillott; Kaylonni Cross, granddaughter of Florence Painter; Clint McAbee and Jaymee McAbee, grandchildren of Jim and Scharlotte McAbee; Stephanie Smith, granddaughter of Don ad Doris Clark; Also not included in last week’s Danville News: Dillon Childers and Allison Doran. Pastor Tom Campbell presented W.M.U. scholarships to these students and 27 of their classmates at graduation. Each will receive $100 when they submit verification of enrollment at an accredited institution of higher learning.
Frances Rowe, owner of Sweet Annie’s of Massey Town extended a “thank you” to the following folks for their help in making the recent dedication of a permanent marker at McKendree Cemetery a big success: Shelba Laney, Melee Laney, Andryle Penn, Jane Reeder, Rhona Summerford, Joan Grantland, Martha Cantrell and Tracy Wright for baking cookies for the reception, Pick Rowe, Chris Sandlin, Paul Rowe and Hal Chaney for erecting the marker, Peck Funeral Home for the use of a tent and Johnny Rowe, Tim Laney and Mike Swafford for erecting the tent, Lee Green Jr. for his help in obtaining information about McKendree Cemetery, Lucy Slater and Martha Cantrell for help with publicity, the Mountain Echos for entertainment, Andrew Williamson and Cherie King and Mr. and Mrs. Johnson for help with publicity.
