Teen charged following chase, wreck in Somerville
A Huntsville teenager is facing charges of attempting to elude a Morgan County deputy sheriff and two others were hurt after the teen reportedly was caught speeding and wrecked at the intersection of Alabama 36 and Cut Off Road in Somerville on June 3.
Alaney Joy Buie, 18, of 9702 Welch Circle SE in Huntsville was charged with felony attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and numerous other traffic violations.
The suspect was traveling eastbound on Alabama 36 when a deputy sheriff on patrol observed her vehicle traveling 81 mph in a 55 mph zone.
According to a press release, she increased her speed and passed an 18-wheeler after the sheriff’s deputy turned around to pursue the suspect.
At the intersection of Alabama 36 and Cut Off Road, the suspect attempted to make a left turn, but she drove off the road into an embankment.
The two victims in her car sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospitals. Their identities and conditions were not released in the press release.
