Sewer contract let for business park
Reed Contracting Co. of Huntsville has been awarded a contract to extend sewer service from the Hartselle-Morgan County Industrial Park on Thompson Road to the new Morgan County Business Park on Byrd Road and I-65.
Hartselle Utilities General Manager Ferrell Vest said he signed a contract with Reed on June 13 after the contractor submitted a low bid of $1,072.50. Several other companies submitted bids but all were higher.
“We feel good about the outcome of the bid process,” Vest said. “We’re familiar with Reed’s work and their bid is in line with the project’s estimated cost.”
Vest said CDG Engineers did the design work and Morgan County Economic Development Association will pay to have the work done.
“We’ll have oversight on the project,” he said, “and we’ll also serve the park with water and natural gas.”
The project will cover a distance of 8,430 feet and the contractor is allowed 150 calendar days from start to finish. A gravity flow line will extend 3,212 feet and the remaining 5,200 feet will be a force line. A pumping station is also a part of the project.
“We pleased to see this project get started,” Vest pointed out, “because its completion will open the park for business. “We actually started preliminary planning about two years ago and have been working on it with full force for the past six months.”
Off-site and on-site road and drainage work will soon be awarded under separate contract,” according to Jeremy Nails, executive director of MECDA. Bids have already been received on that phase of development and a contract is pending.
